Your portfolio is practically your resume in a way. It allows clients to see your work and get a better understanding of the jobs that you are capable of doing. Your portfolio should embody your core skills whether that be a skill within the fitness world, fashion modeling or commercial work. It is practically a highlight reel for clients to rummage through. So with that being said the following are three top reasons why test shoots are so important as a model.
Camera Confidence
In the industry confidence is key. Whether it be an every day confidence you walk in or you are able to switch it on when you are on set. No matter what it may be for you it is important that you build that confidence in yourself. Scheduling test shoots and being able to create your own vision should help build that comfortability in front of the camera. It will allow you to further develop that confidence you need in order to have the shoot day go smoothly.
Practice Them Poses
There are an endless amount of poses that can be used when modeling. It is important that you are able to switch into gear whatever the photographer is trying to capture. Whether that be fitness, lifestyle, high fashion or edgy. Test shoots provide the type of atmosphere where you have more freedom with your posing. You are able to direct yourself with help from the photographers to create the vision that you both have for the shoot. You are able to try new poses, new niches and broaden your portfolio through testing consistently. It will only help you in the end.
Build That Portfolio
BUILD. BUILD. BUILD. This is so key as a model. It is important that you ensure that your book is up to date. What I mean by this is if you change your hair or you happen to fluctuate in weight, it is important that the client knows what you currently look like. Alongside that, it is important that your portfolio aligns with what type of work you want to be submitted for. This will allow clients to see that you are capable of working with their brand.
